Talking Movies with WNBC-TV
film critic Jeffrey Lyons and film executive Roberta Burrows.
Talking Movies presents Hollywood, Foreign, and Independent
films. Discover the personal stories behind the making of a film:
how actors shape characters, how a script evolves, how marketing campaigns
influence what you see, and more!
Talking Movies is designed for your entertainment and education.
The course gives
you the opportunity to talk with actors, directors, screenwriters and
producers in an intimate environment before the movies open
to the public.
Our guests define the range in filmmaking today. Some fall into the
category of movie stars; others are artists passionately committed
to making challenging films, and all are provocative, entertaining
and lively. Franco Zeffirelli charmed, Brenda Blethyn delighted, Chazz
Palminteri captivated, John Boorman intrigued, Peter Bogdanvich told
tales about Hitchcock, Treat Williams was indeed a treat, Aidan Quinn
made matinee idol an evening event, Swoozie Kurtz took us on a journey
from theater to film to television, Kate Burton talked about life
with Liz and Richard, and Ian Bannon and Brendan Gleeson sparkled
with Irish wit. Marcia Gae Harden explained the characterization of artrist Jackson Pollack; John Turturro shared his passion for bringing unique characters to the
screens.
Talking Movies shows prize winners and heralded films from
prestigious festivals like Sundance and Cannes, plus highly anticipated
studio and independent films. Many of the films shown have been nominated
for Academy Awards and Golden Globes.
Three Seasons, A Walk on the Moon, Tea with Mussolini, This Is
My Father, The Castle, Analyze This, Celebrity, Elizabeth, Pleasantville,
Forces of Nature, Little Voice, Waking Ned Devine, Cider House Rules, The
Hurricane, End of the Affair, Topsy Turvy, The Luzin Defence; Himalaya;
Meet The Parents; Gladiator; The Contender; Shadow Magic are some of the
films that brought us to exotic locations, were provocative or just plain
made us laugh. |
